TUCSON, AZ – Savannah Guthrie is still searching for answers after police publicly released two ransom notes connected to the disappearance of her mother, Nancy Guthrie. The TODAY co-host recently shared a tribute to her mom, now believed to be deceased, while asking for help.
“This is our beautiful Mom,” Guthrie began. The co-host shared a picture of her mother smiling along with her loving words. “Six months ago, someone took her out of her bed in the dead of night. We have lived every moment, every breath, and every heartbeat in agony and despair ever since.”
Nancy Guthrie was taken from her home in Tucson on February 1, 2026. Family and friends close to her became alarmed by her disappearance fairly quickly due to the fact that Mrs. Guthrie missed worship services that fateful Sunday. Law enforcement almost immediately suspected foul play.
“We saw some things at the home that were concerning to us,” Sheriff Chris Nanos said during a press conference in February. “We believe now, after we process that crime scene, that we do in fact have a crime scene, that we do in fact have a crime, and we’re asking for the community’s help.”
Savannah Guthrie joined law enforcement in asking the public for help. The TODAY co-host also got on camera with her sister, Annie Guthrie, and brother, Charles Camron Guthrie, to speak directly to the alleged perpetrators who sent a ransom note demanding a maximum $6 million in Bitcoin.
“We are ready to talk,” Savannah Guthrie said in the video. “However, we live in a world where voices and images are easily manipulated,” she continued. “We need to know, without a doubt, that she is alive, and that you have her.”
It appears the individuals behind the initial ransom note indeed had Savannah Guthrie’s mom. A second note was given within days of the first note, which was received by a local news station in Tucson on February 2, saying Nancy Guthrie was dead.
“We did not fully grasp the seriousness of her physical condition,” the second ransom note read. “She perished shortly after she was taken,” the message continued. “We believe it was heart related. She is buried in nature now.”
Nancy Guthrie required daily medication, and law enforcement officials noted that going for extended periods without said dosages could be fatal. On Saturday (Aug. 1), Savannah Guthrie begged for the public’s help in reporting anything suspicious.
“Someone knows something. Someone suspects something. Someone recognizes the writing in the ransom demand notes,” the TODAY co-host shared with her Instagram followers.
“Someone has noticed something different, strange, troubling or just unusual – perhaps with someone they deeply love. Perhaps they are afraid to come forward. Perhaps they are conflicted. Perhaps they are angry or upset for being in this situation. There is a way out – to tell what you know.”
