A Book Review: ‘Jezebel: The Witch Is Back’ By Landon Schott

Jezebel is a spirit often discussed in spiritual settings. From pastors talking about her promiscuous living to congregants accusing others of having her characteristics, it seems this Biblical character cannot catch a break. Landon Schott joins the host of spiritual leaders in calling out Jezebel and her wild antics in his book, Jezebel: The Witch Is Back.

Who Is Jezebel?

In the Bible, Jezebel is an unruly woman who causes her husband to go astray. Ahab is the king of Israel but all of his decisions, it seems, go through his wife, Jezebel.

It is when Ahab covets land belonging to one of his constituents that Jezebel springs into action. She calls for a fast in Israel that ultimately costs the landowner his life. The prophet warns Jezebel about her wicked schemes and promises God’s vengeance for her part in the landowner’s death.

The Witch Is Back

Schott relies on the Bible story of Jezebel to convey his point of the spirit of the wicked queen still being active. The author writes,

“In the kingdom, when an alien force – a Jezebel power – is downloaded into a church, its goal is to disable and destroy individuals, ministries – even the Church as a whole. It will succeed unless God’s remedy – a divine antivirus program – is applied.”

God’s remedy is what Schott seeks to reveal through his text. The author shares things to look out for when determining if someone has the Jezebel spirit. He also provides tips for those whose ministries have already been infected with the virus.

A Discrepancy

Schott is on a mission to help pastors and lay people with his book. His notion of witchcraft “destroying the lives of God’s servants,” however, is questionable.

How can witchcraft significantly impact a believer when the ideology of Christianity is that Jesus lives on the inside of His followers? How can darkness overpower the light to the degree of destroying the believer’s life? Doesn’t this go against everything the Bible talks about?

Who Should Read This Book?

Landon Schott’s Jezebel: The Witch Is Back is a great choice for Christians who serve in ministry. The stories the author gives to convey his point are quite entertaining.
