NEW YORK, NY – Victoria Christopher Murray is taking Harlem Rhapsody on the road! The author announced plans to go on a book tour last Thursday (Jan. 22).
“I’m taking Harlem on the road,” Murray told her Instagram supporters. “With the release of the paperback of HARLEM RHAPSODY, Jessie Redmon Fauset and I are heading out,” she revealed.
Victoria Christopher Murray’s first stop will be at NYU Stern Business School. The author attended the school and received her Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) from the institution. Murray plans to continue her tour at Bookmarks Bookshop in Winston-Salem, NC, the day after.
Harlem Rhapsody made its publishing debut last February. Readers enjoyed the story, set in Harlem during its renaissance, and especially loved the main character, Jessie Redmon Fauset. In reality, Fauset was an editor, poet, essayist, novelist, and educator during the Harlem Renaissance. Victoria Christopher Murray brings various aspects of the historical figure to life in her book.
Some wonder how Murray selects individuals in history to write about. The author shared her process during a 2024 interview with Evansville Living.
“I start with women who have been lost in the folds of history, a story that is little known but should have been well known,” Murray shared. “These women have achievements and accomplishments. We’re standing on their shoulders of their achievements, but we don’t know their names?”
“Who knew the Civil Rights Movement began with the work Eleanor Roosevelt and Mary McLeod Bethune did? Who knew a Black woman had anything to do with it?”
While some may not appreciate a good historical fiction novel, several readers enjoy the work Victoria Christopher Murray presents.
“The biggest compliment is when someone says, ‘I put down your book and went down a rabbit hole. I lost five hours because of you, Victoria,’” Murray told Evansville Living. “There are so many hidden figures in our history,” the author continued. “I’m going to discover as many as I can.”
