Peter Kosminsky Reveals Low Budget Led To Changes In ‘Wolf Hall’ TV Series

Peter Kosminsky did not have the budget to film many outdoor scenes in the latest installment of the Wolf Hall franchise. The director reveals to the press how he had to eliminate a big scene due to gaps in funding.

“We had a whole joust, an extraordinary scene as conceived by Hilary Mantel, the original novelist – and we had to cut everything,” Kosminskly shares.

The director goes on to say, “That’s not something that has ever happened to me before, in all the years I’ve been making programmes (sic), that you actually have to stop six weeks from production.”

Wolf Hall: The Mirror and the Light is book three in Hilary Mantel’s book series. In the story, the final years of Thomas Cromwell are highlighted. Readers see the tension between good versus evil, predator versus prey, and all the makings of what is bound to be a great nation.

Wolf Hall captivated readers when Book One of her trilogy made its debut in 2010. The television adaptation of the book was a big hit as many appreciated Cromwell’s humble beginnings.

Wolf Hall: The Mirror and the Light series was highly anticipated as some BBC viewers noted waiting over a decade to see the story’s continuation on the small screen.

“I already know what’s going to happen, and yet … I can’t look away,” one fan who also read the book series exclaimed when the trailer for The Mirror and the Light was released earlier this year.

“I’m so excited,” the fan continued. “I’ve waited for the finale for 10 years. It’s one of the best Tudor-based series I’ve ever watched.”

Wolf Hall: The Mirror and the Light, the television series, is available for viewing on iPlayer. Hilary Mantel’s third book in her highly-acclaimed trilogy was released in 2021. Wolf Hall: The Mirror and the Light, the book, is available in bookstores nationwide.
