MIAMI, FL – Miami based rapper Gunplay is on a journey with Jesus. The recording artist recently sat down with We In Miami Podcast to talk about his experience with Santería and his decision to leave the Afro-Caribbean religion behind for Christianity.
“I would make offerings, and I was getting everything I wanted,” Gunplay said when asked if he thought he sold his soul to the devil at one point. The rapper admitted that his ability to make offerings and have things work in his favor convinced him that he had indeed gone all the way to the dark side.
“It’s as real as this table,” Gunplay said of Santería and its effects. “They tell you,” the rapper shared when speaking of the offerings followers are required to bring to the spiritual leaders of the religion. “Whatever you need done, they’ll tell you a specific animal to get for it.”
Gunplay alluded to the notion of having to “pay” for the seemingly good fortune brought about by Santería in the long run. The recording artist went on to express gratitude to God for bringing him out of the religion by way of Jesus.
“I think if I didn’t make the change that I did in my belief system, I think that would have been the end of me,” Gunplay admitted during his interview with We In Miami Podcast. “But, you know, my God is always in charge,” he said of his new life as a Christian. “He was just watching everything go down.”
Gunplay did not shy away from the notion of the entertainment industry being demonic. “The more you get closer to God, the more everything is highlighted,” the rapper shared. “It just pops out at you.”
When asked if he believed certain artists have sold their souls to the devil in exchange for high levels of success, Gunplay shared his theory that agreed with the notion of sacrifices for fame.
“You can’t hang around certain people until you’re at a certain caliber,” the rapper said. He also agreed with the host of We In Miami Podcast’s idea of highly successful entertainers wanting to make certain those in their close-knit circles are in the same realm as themselves. “Yeah,” Gunplay confirmed.
