First Christian Church of Cheyenne Celebrates 100 Years

CHEYENNE, WY – First Christian Church of Cheyenne celebrated 100 years of service to the community last Saturday (Jan. 17). The church held a day of celebration in its Fellowship Hall and raised $200,000 for teen moms who are homeless in the community.

Since its inception in 1926, First Christian Church of Cheyenne (FCC) has been committed to uplifting the community. “One of the big things for me is the community involvement of the church,” Susan Robbins, administrative assistant at FCC, says. “I think it’s always been the fabric of it, and that’s what the church has always embodied.”

Reverend Aerii Smith, who has been with the church since 2020, agrees. “The biggest change I’ve seen since I joined the church is their confidence in who they are and who they want to be and how they want to interact with the rest of Cheyenne and be a part of it,” Smith shares.

“They’re leaning into who they already were in a more formal way, which is a church that’s very welcoming and open to everyone.”

FCC houses Threads of Hope, which is a charity focused on providing resources to families impacted by foster care in Laramie County. The church previously housed Needs, Inc. and Habitat for Humanity within its quarters. These organizations have since found other facilities to use for daily operations.

“The church was always wanting to help and just be a part of this community in so many different ways,” Susan Robbins says of FCC’s past and present commitment to the community.

“Currently, our outreach team does dinner service for COMEA on the first Thursday of every month, we still help Habitat when needed, and also give to the Friday Food Bag Foundation and to the Unaccompanied Students Initiative.”

According to its website, First Christian Church does not promote dogma or doctrine but instead invites its members to bolster “freedom and diversity.” The church prides itself on being an inclusive ministry that allows individuals to “interpret the Scriptures and perform church functions.”
