Cat Bohannon’s ‘EVE’ Is Getting A Paperback Version

EVE: How the Female Body Drove 200 Million Years of Human Evolution by Cat Bohannon is getting a paperback option. Alfred A. Knopf announced the new addition on Monday (Jan. 6).

February 25, 2025, is the set release date for the paperback version of EVE. In the book, Bohannon seeks to answer questions about men and women that relate to hormonal changes, academic success, and more.

“The book starts with shock, rage, and then it’s a wild ride,” Bohannon said during a recent interview. “I did know I had an idea for a book for a couple of years,” the author shared. “I kept waiting for someone else to do it. I knew it was going to be about the female in evolution. I felt like I needed to do this.”

EVE seeks to tackle many subjects. The driving concept, however, is the notion of bias. Is there a battle of the sexes? And, if so, has such tension fueled evolution?

“One of the things about researching this book was that I had to be willing to read all kinds of arguments, like eugenics arguments,” Bohannon shared when speaking with NewCity Lit. “That was emotionally difficult because I want women and girls of all types to live better lives. And I don’t want to be part of the problem,” she said.

“Many people are going to weaponize science against the bodies of marginalized folk,” the author explained. “The book begins with body parts and ends with behavioral traits.”

Dozens have appreciated the humor and seriousness of EVE. The New York Times Book Review called the book “a love letter” to evolution.

Others recently expressed excitement about Bohannon’s work being offered in paperback form. “I’ve been hoping for the paperback,” one social media follower exclaimed after seeing the announcement on Alfred A. Knopf’s Instagram page. “Can’t wait,” they added.
