Verity by Colleen Hoover is coming to a theater near you! Anne Hathaway has been cast as Verity in the forthcoming film.
Those who have read Verity understand the twists and turns of the storyline. In the book, Verity is a famous author who is unable to finish her book series after an accident leaves her significantly injured. Her husband, Jeremy, decides to hire a struggling writer to serve as his wife’s ghost writer.
While digging through the notes, the ghost writer discovers troubling information that suggests there may be more to Verity than what meets the eye. Is Verity an incredibly talented writer? Or, is she a psychopath?
Colleen Hoover self-published Verity in 2018. The book became the novel to read shortly thereafter, which followed the success of her 2016 book, It Ends With Us.
“I honestly wrote my first novel having no idea it was classified as romance,” Hoover recently said of her writing career as a whole. “I’ve never paid attention to genres,” she added. “I write whatever idea it is that comes to me.”
“I haven’t really found that one thing has been easier or more difficult than another, but I did enjoy writing Verity the most. I don’t know if it’s because it was so different from my other stuff or if it was because I loved the thrill of it. But I plan to write more thriller novels for sure. I’m just waiting for a good enough idea.”
To date, Colleen Hoover has written more than 25 books. Some wonder how she produces one story after another.
“I do move on pretty fast from each book,” the author admitted during a 2022 interview with Waterstones. “But that has slowed down over the past couple of years,” Hoover added.
“I used to write a book, submit it, and then start writing the next, but now I like to put a little space in there to let my books simmer. I’ve got a lot more going on now than I did in 2012, so I had a lot more ideas back then that I was ready to start. It takes a little longer to form an idea for a book nowadays, so I take time to let those ideas simmer now.”
Michael Showalter will direct Verity, the film. The search for actors to star as other characters from the novel in the film continues.
