Freida McFadden’s The Housemaid is coming to the big screen. The author has been in celebration mode for the past two weeks.
“I can’t even express how excited I am to announce that #TheHousemaidMovie is coming soon,” McFadden told her social media followers. “@Lionsgate has come up with the absolute perfect cast and director, and I am just so grateful,” she exclaimed. “I’m so honored and thankful to all my readers who helped make this dream come true!”
The Housemaid is the story of Millie who hopes to see better days in life. She takes a job as a housemaid in Nina Winchester’s home, which causes her to believe things are finally looking up. All is not right with the Winchester family, however, which leads Millie through various twists and turns.
To date, The Housemaid has sold more than 3 million copies while remaining on the New York Times Bestseller list. The success of the book has taken Fredia McFadden, who prefers a life of privacy, by surprise.
“I don’t like to be the center of attention,” the author said during a recent interview. “I love that people are reading my books,” she continued. “But the spotlight on me specifically is hard.”
The spotlight is bound to get brighter for McFadden as the cast of the forthcoming film includes Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried. Paul Feig will direct the movie.
“Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried are perfect for Millie and Nina,” Erin Westerman, co-president of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, said in a statement. “They’re both mysterious, nuanced, and incredibly skilled at becoming characters who don’t reveal everything right away,” Westerman added.
“We’re thrilled to team them with Paul Feig, who we worked with on A Simple Favor and its upcoming sequel and has a proven track record of developing stories with dynamic female leads.”
