Corey Richards Is Coming To The Manhattan Beach Library!

Cory Richards is coming to the Manhattan Beach Library! The photographer will delve into his latest memoir effort, Bi-Polar: Photographs from an Unquiet Mind

In Bi-Polar, Richards shares photos that represent his journey after being diagnosed with Bipolar 2. The author was 14 years old when diagnosed and has managed to use what some view as a disadvantage as a sort of superpower.

“One of the things that I started to realize is that a very successful career does not always a healthy brain make,” Richards shared during a recent interview with NPR. “I look at somebody’s success and I go, ‘They must be really happy and really healthy,’ when in fact there was proof in my own life that that isn’t true and unraveling that was really hard,” he continued.

“Because when I let go of those identities, I really question what place I have in the world and what is my value here? And how do I find it if I’m not those things?”

Bi-Polar includes several pictures from Richards’ adventures as a professional photographer. A portion of the creation also sheds light on his #MeToo experience, which still has a significant impact on his life.

“I’m disclosing it publicly for the first time in my book,” the author told NPR. “The people closest to me know about this. And it was a really, really hard moment for me. It was incredibly challenging.”

Cory Richards’ visit to Manhattan Beach Library will occur on Saturday, November 16, 2024, at 2 PM. The author will deliver a talk, which will kick off the library’s Speaker Series.

Several readers have already celebrated the Bi-Polar’s focus on mental health. They especially enjoy Cory Richards’ decision to convey his message through pictures.
