WASHINGTON, D.C. – Mercy Culture Church – based in Fort Worth, Texas – is expanding its reach to Washington, D.C. The church recently announced the opening of its prayer house called “The Threshing Floor.”

According to the church’s Instagram page, The Threshing Floor Prayer House will be “a dwelling place for His (God’s) presence – where prayer and intercession become the altar that shapes the nation.” The house is across the street from the Supreme Court, which the church’s pastors, Landon and Heather Schott, believe is no accident.
“This is a miracle,” said Mrs. Schott during the church’s special “Vision Sunday” service last month. “It’s one of only three historic homes directly behind the Supreme Court.”
“You can hit a ping-pong ball to the Supreme Court [from the house],” Mr. Schott said. The story behind how the church acquired the prayer house includes a prophetic word given by Mercy Culture campus pastor Les Cody.
“He said, ‘Landon, I see the Lord giving us a prayer house, and it will be your new favorite place to pray,’” Mr. Schott told his congregants. The Schotts took that revelation and began to “steward” it by searching for a home in the area.
The location across from the Supreme Court came on their radar last summer with a price tag of $3.1 million. Although the Schotts wanted to follow what they believed God told them concerning a prayer house in the D.C. area, they did not want to do a special fundraiser for such a large amount. Such is the reason why the pastors were grateful when a partner of the ministry volunteered to pay for the prayer house from his personal funds.
“The same weekend that we dedicated it with Dutch [Sheets], we had a friend of our church who was in D.C., and I called them,” Mr. Schott told Mercy Culture congregants. “I was like, ‘Hey, you need to go by and pray at the prayer house.’ So they go by and pray at the prayer house. When they’re at the prayer house, God visits them and speaks to them. He calls me afterwards. He said, ‘God spoke to me. I’m supposed to pay off this prayer house for you.’”

Members of Mercy Culture Church will soon have the ability to sign up for prayer slots at The Threshing Floor Prayer House. It is unclear if the house will be open to the public.
