“I’ll start when the timing is right.”
“If only I had enough money.”
“One day in the near or distant future, I will make my dreams come true.”
These are all things we have either said or heard someone say. Victoria Osteen addresses this idea of waiting for the perfect moment, and how we shouldn’t do that, in her book, Graced To Go: Step Into The Bigger, Bolder Life That Belongs To You.
Summary: Begin Where You Are
The main idea of Graced To Go is that God has called everyone to accomplish something in life. He has birthed visions and dreams inside of us with the expectation of us walking out His purpose in our lives. Excuses that lead to procrastination, however, can keep us stuck in the place of wishful thinking. Hence, our dreams given by God become fantasies instead of possibilities.
Victoria Osteen provides tips and motivation for those looking to get out of the “maybe someday” rut. Her theory is that God has graced everyone to pursue the dreams He has placed in their hearts. You only need to get up and start where you are.
So Many Stories
One aspect of this book that I enjoyed most was the storytelling. Victoria Osteen is great at capturing the reader’s attention with personal testimonies about how the anecdote she’s prescribing has worked in her life. It is not difficult to become inspired after reading about how Victoria lacked confidence as a public speaker but grew in grace as she continued to show up. Her stories make readers want to revisit dreams they placed on the shelf and, perhaps, learn what it means to pursue their God-given passions.
More Motivation, Less Discipleship
While Graced To Go is an amazing self-help book, I would not recommend it for discipleship. Some of the examples Osteen uses from the Bible (Saul has entered the chat) are not the best options. Also, you could easily remove all Biblical references and still have a great book to motivate you on your journey. I wouldn’t call that the best choice for discipleship.
For Those Looking For Inspiration
Graced To Go: Step Into The Bigger, Bolder Life That Belongs To You by Victoria Osteen is an excellent source for those searching for inspiration. Pick up this book when you want to dream again.
